Notes

  • Dutch name underwent numerous changes: the "Van" was dropped and the "K" for Couwenhoven was changed to "C", then to Kowenhoven or Cowenhoven, then Covenhoven or Covenoven and finally Conover. Wolfert Gerretse Van Kouswenhoven and his wife Neeltje Janse began the Couwenhoven family in America. He came from Amersfoort Province of Utrecht, Holland in 1630 with Dutch Immigrants. LIved in Rensselaerwick near Albany NY - then lived in Manhatten NY, Brooklyn , New Utrecht NY and Monmouth County NJ -- David Conover record spells the name, Covenhoven (probably a type error)
  • The "Willems" as in Albert Willems Covenhoven is added from Early Dutch Settlers book in Hicksville, Long Island NY Public Library
  • He was also known as Albert Willemse Van Kouwenhoven. And he was also known as Albert Van Kouwenhoven. And he was also known as Albert Williamse Couwenhoven. [7]
  • They removed to the vicinity of Freehold, New Jersey, about 1702. He and his wife were members of the Reformed Dutch Church, Freehold, New Jersey in 1709.[16][7]
  • He was a member of the grand jury, Court of Quarter Session held Nov, 1715. His will dated 6 Sep 1748, mentions wife Eleanor and eleven children, but not Neeltje, who predeceased him.[7][8]
